The Elusive Fan Podcast: Selling Pro Football Before the Super Bowl

Evanston, IL (PRWeb) January 17, 2007 -- In what may be a forgotten era of pro football for many football fans, The Elusive Fan Podcast explores an exciting NFL championship game before the creation of the Super Bowl.

Bob Wetoska, starting right tackle for the 1963 NFL Champion Chicago Bears, appears this week on The Elusive Fan Podcast to talk about the legendary hard-fought NFL championship game between the George Halas-led Chicago Bears and a New York Giants team that included Frank Gifford and Y.A. Tittle. The Bears won 14-10 in temperatures 10 below freezing at Wrigley Field.

Much has changed in the NFL in the 43 years since the 1963 championship game. The merger with the AFL, the multimillion-dollar television contracts and the expansion of the league to 32 teams has forever transformed the NFL's championship game. Today, the Super Bowl is a national event that crosses over into all areas of popular culture and is celebrated with holiday-like festivities.

But what was it like to play in the NFL Championship in 1963, before the Super Bowl? In a rare public interview, Bob Wetoska offers his first-hand experience of playing in this legendary game and the sports marketing and communication practices surrounding it.
